Tokozan Daijoji Temple

Tokozan Daijoji Temple was founded by Zen Master Tettsu Gikai, third head of Eiheiji Temple, head temple (daihonzan) of the Soto Zen sect. The temple is noteworthy for its close ties to both Soto Zen daihonzan temples, Eiheiji and Sojiji.

The temple’s Buddha Hall, along with several other of its structures, have been designated as prefectural or municipal Cultural Properties. Daijoji has a seven-building layout, typical of a Zen temple.
